What is your current state of mind? Remembering when... What are the components of bliss? Sitting on a boat in the middle of Georgian Bay. If you could invite anyone from history to dinner who would it be? Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Count Basie. What is the best piece of advice you were ever given, and who gave it to you? By the age of 14, I was playing professional trumpet with the Lloyd Kibbler Orchestra in Ontario Dance Halls, Pavilions and many other places under aged children were not allowed! Lloyd always told me to go after what I wanted and “...don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t (play trumpet)!” What is the one thing you’d change about yourself? I’d eliminate the health challenges that come with age. What would it take to make you go, WOW!!!? Sitting in the Captain’s chair on the fly bridge of a brand new 50 foot Yacht. Who are your real life heroes? My wife Roselyn and our three beautiful children, Joshua, Samantha and Lincoln. What is the most outrageous thing you’ve heard said about yourself? I was the youngest and newest member of the band and the lead trumpet player said (one young cocky trumpet player to another) “Ha! You’ll never be good enough for my first trumpet chair!” Two months later he was gone and it was mine!! What feature/quality do you find most interesting in another person? Being outgoing and always at the centre of attention. What word or phrase do you most overuse? That’s Wonderful! What is your earliest memory of childhood? Being dressed up with my Fedora and walking cane. You have $100, what do you spend it on? An elaborate Chinese buffet dinner. What has been your greatest memory? Having my 18th birthday party hosted by Louis Armstrong and Jack Teagarten at the Colonial Tavern in Toronto! What would your autobiography be called? Tommy Earlls Trumpeter Extraordinaire – Canada’s “Man with The Horn” What’s your pet peeve, what really ticks you off? Being interrupted! Who is your favourite fictional hero? Lone Ranger. Who is the most interesting person you’ve ever met? As an actor I have met many unforgettable characters. A movie set can really come to life with the likes of Mr. T and Red Foxx. You have an afternoon all to yourself away from everything/everybody, how do you spend it? That’s easy: with a line up of my favourite movies starting with “Shane” starring Alan Ladd; “Casablanca” with Humphrey Bogart and then “The Glenn Miller Story” with Jimmy Stewart. You arrive at the pearly gates, what does St. Peter say to you? Finally! The boys are waiting for you Tom. See you at the club! Louis (Armstrong), Ray (Anthony), Moxie (Whitney) and Ellis (McLintock) are all ready for the downbeat! If the whole world were listening, what would you say? Do what you love and love what you do. You never know when things will change. GL |
